Crime sweep leads to two dozen arrests

In an operation that began before dawn on Monday, law enforcement agencies from Allegany County combined to conduct a warrant sweep targeting individuals wanted in Allegany County for a variety of offenses ranging from Violation of Probation (VOP) on up to robbery. Participating agencies included the Maryland State Police, the Cumberland Police, the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office, the Frostburg Police, the C3I Narcotics Task Force, the Allegany County Emergency Operations Center, and C3I.

 

            Suspects were processed with the assistance of technicians with the Maryland State Police Forensic Sciences Division. They were then transported to the Allegany County District Court Commissioner’s Office for their initial appearance.

 

            A total of 21 suspects were arrested throughout the morning. The following individuals, their age, town of residence, the charge, and release conditions, were arrested:

 

 1.) Jason Carl Bender, 37, Cumberland, Assault on Police, released on recognizance

 2.) Evan McKinley West, 18, Cumberland, Robbery, held on $50,000.00 bond

 3.) Jason Michael Weinberger, 26, Cumberland, Fugitive (Theft), held without bond

 4.) Michael Thomas McWhirter, 61, Cumberland, VOP, released on $150.00 bond

 5.) Michael Edward Preston, 27, Frostburg, VOP, held on $500.00 bond

 6.) Thomas Joseph Farrell III, 26, Frostburg, VOP, held without bond

 7.) Paige Tresa Shingler, 20, Cumberland, VOP, released on $365.00 bond

 8.) Jennifer Sue Riggleman, 24, Midland, Theft, released on recognizance

 9.) Francis Allan Valentine, 51, Cumberland, VOP, released on $2500.00 bond

10.) William Allen Brashear, 47, Westernport, Burglary, released on recognizance

11.) Codi Rae Wigger-Clanagan, 24, Cumberland, VOP, released on $2500.00 bond

12.) William Edward Ravenscroft, 43, Cumberland, VOP, held on $200.00 bond

13.) Joshua Keith Fasching, 25, Midland, Theft, released on recognizance

14.) Sean Matthew Dillon, 31, Cumberland, False Statement to a Police Officer, released   

        on recognizance                                                                                  

15.) Heath Lawrence Bittner, 30, Mt. Savage, VOP, released on $65.00 bond

16.) Bryan Scott Atkinson, 46, Cumberland, Assault, held on $3500.00 bond

17.) Christopher Alan Porter, 32, Oldtown, Sex Offense, held on $2500.00 bond

18.) Antoinette Blank, 47, Cumberland, VOP, held on $500.00 bond

19.) Robert Lee Porter, 52, Cumberland, Failure to Appear, released on recognizance

20.) Dwayne Lamonte Kelly, 42, Cumberland, Theft, held on $3000.00 bond

21.) James Michael Dicus, 24, Cumberland, CDS Violations, released on recognizance

             Those individuals who were held were transported to the Allegany County Detention Center where they will be held until they post bond, or until their next court appearance.  Arrest teams are continuing to search for other suspects who are currently wanted, and will continue until the suspects are apprehended.

    Thank you to our Police force in arresting 21 suspects. This shows why we need to continue to support our Law Enforcement agencies. They should be getting raises instead of worrying about being cut. This also shows that Cumberland isn’t the place it used to be. That is sad.
