Criminal Summons Served on Fireworks Violation

On Tuesday, June 30th, 2020 the Cumberland Police Department served a criminal summons on Chad William Turner.  The summons was issued in reference to the report of someone discharging fireworks in the area of Grand Avenue back on June 27th.  On that date, police responded to Grand Avenue and located a residence where the fireworks were being set off at.  Officers made contact with Chad W. Turner who admitting to setting them off stating “he thought it would be safe because it was raining”.  The summons charged Turner with discharging and possession of fireworks without a permit, disturbing the peace loud noise, and failure to obey a lawful order.  He signed and received copies of the charging documents and was released pending trial at District Court.

    His fireworks logic is similar to mask wearing logic. “A thin piece of cloth worn loosely around the nose and mouth inconsistently by the public and people who espouse their use will prevent a microscopic contagion”

    I really don’t understand why people are getting charged and arrested for lighting off some fireworks. Granted, yes they are dangerous and yes people do get hurt every year due to the use of firework. But if they are begin setoff in manner that is safe and by adult. I don’t see the harm. I mean 2020 has been bad already. I think people should have fun celebrate somewhat. I’m sry this is just I How I Feel. Just my opinion.
