CSX has confirmed to WCBC News that there have been some additional furloughs in Cumberland. In an email response to questions about personnel levels and speed limits in the Cumberland yard, spokesman Rob Doolittle said: “There have been a small number of additional layoffs at the CSX Cumberland yard, and there have been some adjustments to operational procedures. These are the result of the ongoing review by CSX’s management team to improve efficiency, service to customers, and the safety of our employees, customers and the communities where we operate, which remains our highest priority.” This is just the latest action that has rumors of major layoffs and perhaps the closure of the local operation continuing to swirl in the community.
