CSX To Rejoin Negotiations Over Baltimore Project

December 14th, 2018 by WCBC Radio

While Cumberland has been trying to come to an agreement with CSX over replacement of three West Side bridges for several years, the State of Maryland has also been attempting to reach an agreement with the railroad over a tunnel in Baltimore.

In fact, when WCBC spoke with Governor Larry Hogan at last year's PACE Reception, he referenced the Howard Street Tunnel Project, which CSX had walked away from during the time Hunter Harrison was involved.

Members of the Transportation Department also cited challenges with dealing with the railroad.

WBAL obtained a statement from Governor Hogan's office today:

"Moving forward with the Howard Street Tunnel project has been a priority for Governor Hogan since before he was elected governor, and will have a transformative impact on the Port of Baltimore and Baltimore City. Our administration has been in close contact with CSX throughout this process, and we welcome them back to the table to work together and get it done. Our administration stands ready to work with our federal partners to secure the resources we need to to get this critical project back on track."
