Cumberland City Police Report From Friday

Hit and Run Accident

On Friday, April 9, 2016 at approximately 3:20 pm, Officers from the Cumberland Police Department responded to the area of Henderson Avenue and Valley Street for a report of a Hit and Run Accident.  Upon their arrival Officers spoke to the victim as well as several witnesses.  The victim was operating her vehicle on Henderson Avenue when the suspect pulled into her pathway.  The driver of the at fault vehicle, Johnnie Bettis, then exited his vehicle and ran from the scene on foot.  After speaking with witnesses and gaining a description of the suspect, Bettis was located at a nearby residence.  He was placed under arrest and transported to the Cumberland Police Department.  Bettis was issued Hit and Run traffic citations and released pending trial in District Court.

Johnnie Bettis, age: 35, of Cumberland, MD

Charges: Hit and Run traffic charges

 

CDS Citation

On Friday, April 9, 2016 a Cumberland Police Officer observed a vehicle travelling with only one headlight illuminated.  The Officer stopped the vehicle on Baltimore Street and made contact with the driver, Daryl Griffiths.  It was determined Griffiths was driving on a suspended license and privilege in Maryland.  A search of the vehicle was conducted and an amount of Marijuana was located inside the vehicle.  Griffiths was issued citations and released at the scene pending trial in District Court.

 

Arrested:

Daryl Griffiths, age 20, of Cumberland, MD

Charges: Possession of CDS, less than 10 grams

Driving Suspended traffic citation
