Cumberland Economic Development Corp. Close To Deal For Consulting Services

The newly formed Cumberland Economic Development Corporation is close to finalizing a deal with Sage Policy Group of Baltimore to provide consulting services for the planned “opportunity sites” project.  That project has identified a number of key economic development corridors in the city that could prove attractive for redevelopment and private investment opportunities.  Sage, which is owned by nationally renowned economist Anirban Basu, provides a wide variety of consulting services.  One of the first such corridors to be studied will is the downtown mall.  The subject was discussed during Thursday morning’s meeting of the Downtown Development Commission. While never stated directly, the long discussed possibility of re-opening the mall to vehicular traffic could very well be part of any recommendation that comes from the consultant.
