Cumberland Fire Under Investigation

A minor Veterans Day fire at the rear of James Day Drive in Cumberland is being investigated by the Maryland State Fire Marshal's office, which released the following notice:

NOTICE OF INVESTIGATION

Date: November 11, 2019

Time: 4:00 p.m.

Location / Address:   Wooded area to the rear of James Day Drive, Cumberland (city), Allegany County

Type of Incident:    tent fire

Description of Structure / Property: 7×7 foot  tent being used as a residence

Tent Owner:  Daniel Hott

Injuries or Deaths: none

Estimated $ Loss: $100 (tent & contents)

Smoke Alarm Status:  none

Fire Alarm / Sprinkler Status: none

Arrests(s): none

Primary Responding Fire Department:  Cumberland City Fire Department

# of Alarms:   1     # Of Firefighters: 8

Time to Control:   30 minutes

Area of Origin:   interior of tent

Preliminary Cause:  under investigation

Additional Information:  Tent was placed on property without the property owner's knowledge or permission.   Fire impinged upon the wooded area.   Anyone with information is requested to contact the State Fire Marshal's Office at 301-766-3888.
