Cumberland Man Arrested On Assault Charges

On June 4, 2018 officers from the Cumberland City Police Department responded to 2 Utah Avenue for a domestic assault.  Upon the officers arrival they interviewed the female complainant in this matter.

Officers learned from the female that she had been living at the residence for the past three months with Mark Warren Amezcua 2nd.   Officers were advised that the two had an argument that escalated into an assault.  Officers were informed by the complainant that during the assault, Amezcua had thrown an item at her, kicked her and struck her in the back of the head several times.  After the initial assaulted, Amezcua threw the victim to the ground and began to strangle the victim until she almost lost consciousness.

The alleged victim in this matter sustained visible injuries that were consistent with her account of the incident.  As a result of this incident, Amezcua was placed under arrest at the scene. Amezcua was transported to the Cumberland City Police Department. Amezcua was processed, served and taken before the District Court Commissioner. Amezcua was held in the Allegany County Detention Center without bond.

Charge: 2nd Degree Assault

    This sentence states that Amezcua was assaulted, which is not likely the case. No doubt it was written by a product of our fine school system noted in other articles today. Three cheers for unionized schools!

On Sunday January 7th, 2018 the Cumberland City Police responded to a Gay St residence for a reported assault. Once on scene officers contacted the victim of the reported assault. The victim informed officers that she had been arguing with her boyfriend, Anthony Lawrence Torres, inside their residence. According to the victim, during the argument she told Torres she was going to leave the residence. Torres then grabbed the victim by the wrists and pushed her up against a wall, preventing her from leaving the residence. Another party in the home then intervened, providing the victim the opportunity to escape the home. The victim was then able to contact the Police for assistance. As a result of the officer’s investigation, Torres was placed under arrest and transported to the Cumberland Police Department. He was processed and taken before the District Court Commissioner where he was released on his own recognizance.

Charges:     Assault 2nd Degree, False Imprisonment
