Cumberland man convicted in kidnapping and assault case

The Office of the State’s Attorney for Allegany County, Michael O. Twigg, State’s Attorney, announced on Friday, June 8, 2018, that Leigh Danielle Williams, 37 of Cumberland, following a three day jury trial, was convicted in the Allegany County Circuit Court of attempted kidnapping and second degree assault relating to the October 27, 2017 attempted abduction of a five year old child in an alley behind W. First Street in Cumberland.

 

Circuit Court Judge W. Timothy Finan presided over the trial and ordered that Williams be remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center pending a pre-sentence investigation.  Sentencing will be held on a later date.

 

The case was prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney Karen Detrick and Assistant State’s Attorney Samuel Lane.  Williams was represented by Michael Stankan and Paul Notarianni of the Public Defender’s Office.
