Cumberland Man Facing Rape Charges

December 3rd, 2013 by WCBC Radio

On Friday, November 22nd, 24 year old Marlon Matthew-Khan Hawkins, of Cumberland, was arrested by members of the C3I Warrant/Fugitive Unit after an indictment had been issued by the Grand Jury for Allegany County charging him with 2nd Degree Rape.

The charge stems from an investigation that began on 10/06/2012 when the Cumberland Police responded to a private residence in south Cumberland for a reported sexual assault. After initial interviews with the 18 year old female victim and witnesses, the Cumberland Police requested the assistance of C3I, and Investigators responded to assist in the investigation.

Investigators learned that there had been a party at another location earlier in the evening. Party attendees were drinking alcohol and there were varying levels of intoxication. The victim, some friends, and several other people left the party and ended up at another location for the remainder of the evening. The suspect was one of the people with them.

Early the next morning, the Cumberland Police were contacted about the sexual assault. C3I Investigators obtained evidence from the scene and also obtained a DNA sample from Hawkins.

The evidence was forwarded to the Maryland State Police Crime Lab for testing, which took several months to analyze. Evidence collected from the victim matched the DNA sample from Hawkins. With this information, the case was presented to the Grand Jury who determined that there was enough probable cause to indict Hawkins for 2nd Degree Rape.

After his arrest, Hawkins was taken before the Circuit Court for an initial appearance, and after posting $10,000.00 bond, is free pending his next court appearance.
