Cumberland Police Chief Discusses Department’s Role in New State COVID Mandates

Cumberland Chief of Police Chuck Ternent tells WCBC News that although the department will be working closely with Maryland State Police under the enhanced COVID-19 enforcement effort getting underway this week, city police will continue to be the lead agency in Cumberland. Governor Larry Hogan announced this week that Maryland State Police will lead a statewide effort to enforce executive orders related to the coronavirus. The announcement followed a series of new orders limiting occupancy at establishments, curtailing hospital and nursing home visits, and forcing food service establishments to close early.
