Cumberland Police Have Busy Thursday

On Thursday, February 28th, 2019 the Cumberland City Police arrested Richard Dorn Fertig III, 25, of Keyser WV. Fertig was arrested on an outstanding bench warrant for failing to appear in court on February 22nd, 2019 for a previous theft charge. Fertig was taken before the District Court Commissioner where he was released after posting a $2500 bond.

***Adult Arrest***

On Thursday, February 28th, 2019, the Cumberland City Police responded to a business in the 1000 block of Industrial Blvd. for the report of a theft. Once on scene, Officers contacted store employees as well as an off duty police officer who witnessed the incident. During the incident, it is alleged that a female entered the store and concealed items on her person. When confronted about the stolen property, she became disruptive and pushed the employee, before running from the scene. The female was later located by the off duty police officer and returned to the store. The suspect was identified as Rachel Dawn Hillegas, 34, of Cumberland MD. Hillegas was then placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters for processing. Hillegas was issued a criminal citation for theft and released pending trial in District Court.

***Adult Arrest***

On Thursday, February 28th, 2019, The Cumberland City Police responded to the 1500 block of Oldtown Rd. for a m/v crash. Once on scene, Officers discovered that the driver of a 2014 Chevy passenger car had struck two parked vehicles in the parking lot of the apartment complex. The driver of the Chevy was identified as Jennifer Diane Bible, 32, of Cumberland MD. Through the officer’s investigation and with the assistance of an Allegany County Sherriff’s Office Drug Recognition Expert, Bible was taken into custody for suspicion of driving while under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance. At this time, Bible was also found to be in possession of a quantity of Hydrocodone tablets, which is a Controlled Dangerous Substance. Bible was taken before the District Court Commissioner for an initial appearance for the CDS charge and released was released on her own personal recognizance.

***Adult Arrest***

On Thursday, February 28th, 2019, Cumberland City Police responded to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center in reference to a domestic assault. Once on scene, Officers contacted the juvenile victim of the alleged assault. The victim advised they had been struck multiple times by the suspect on this evening over issues at their home. The victim did have multiple visible signs of injury to their face. Officers also observed security camera footage of the alleged incident which showed the suspect striking the juvenile. Based on the officer’s investigation, Ronald Henry Whetsell Jr, 51, of Cumberland MD, was placed under arrest and transported to Police Headquarters. He was taken before the District Court Commissioner for an initial appearance where he was released on his own personal recognizance.
