On March 11, 2017 at approximately 12:53 AM an officer with the Cumberland Police Department initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle on eastbound Interstate 68 for a traffic violation. While the officer was speaking with the driver, the passenger of the vehicle, Sara Elizabeth Caskey, appeared to be extremely nervous. The officer requested a K-9 respond to perform a scan of the vehicle. The K-9 alerted to the presence of narcotics and a search was conducted. The search resulted in a hypodermic syringe being located on Caskey. She was arrested and taken before a District Court Commissioner for a bond hearing where she was released on her personal recognizance pending trial in District Court.
