Cumberland Police Make Disorderly Conduct, Theft Arrests

On July 18th, 2020, an Officer with the Cumberland City Police was in the area of Canal Shops when they observed a subject in violation of an open container law.

Contact was then made with the subject, Charles Orville Butler, 48, of Frostburg MD. Butler then began to create a disturbance in the area, yelling loudly at the officer. Butler was attracting the attention of numerous shop patrons in the area and was instructed to cease his disruptive behavior. Butler refused to comply with officers instructions and continued to create a disturbance. Butler was then placed under arrest and transported to Police Headquarters for processing.

Butler was taken before the District Court Commissioner for his Initial Appearance where he was released on his own personal recognizance.

Charges: Disorderly Conduct, Disturb the Peace

 

On July 18th, 2020, a criminal summons was served on Christopher Adam Johnston, 34, of Cumberland MD. The summons was in reference to an incident on July 1st, 2020, at a Bedford St residence.

During that incident it is alleged that Johnston stole an item from the exterior of the property. Johnston was charged with theft less than $100.

Arrested: Christopher Adam Johnston Age: 34, Cumberland MD

Charges: Theft less than $100.

    “Numerous shop patrons” at Canal Shops?!? As numerous means many and patrons are folks actually buying stuff, this must be fake news.
