March 28th, 2018 by WCBC Radio

At approximately 1342 hours officers were called to a Queen City Drive business for a report of a theft.  Officers made contact with staff and learned that while the staff was tied up with another costumer a male subject entered the business removing property.  Officers reviewed video surveillance and began to check the area for the suspect.  At 1438 hours officers received a complaint at a N. Mechanic Street business for someone sleeping inside the building.  Officers arrived and recognized the suspect sleeping as the same suspect from the earlier theft complaint on Queen City Drive.  The officer questioned Garrett Brooks Carnefix about the earlier incident.  A consent search of Carnefix’s property revealed the stolen item from the previous complaint.  Carnefix was taken into custody and transported to police headquarters for processing.  The stolen property was photographed and returned to the owner.  Carnefix was later released from custody pending trial in District Court.
