Cumberland Police Reminds Residents To Lock Vehicles

February 14th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

Cumberland City Police remind residents to lock their parked vehicles and to remove or hide valuables.

“We occasionally receive a report of items stolen from parked vehicles. In almost every case, the perpetrator does not force their way in but simply opens an unlocked door. While not frequent, when we experience thefts, we usually get a rash of several in a night along one street where it’s obvious the suspect is walking along and simply checking doors to see if they open. The biggest defense against thefts from vehicles is to make sure your vehicles are locked and secured when you park them. Also, do not leave valuables such as laptop computers out where they can be seen. Most thieves are lazy and don’t want to work hard for their booty, they’ll pick the easiest target,” commented Captain Chuck Ternent, interim Cumberland Police Chief.

If anyone is a victim of vehicle theft or witnesses suspicious activity, please contact the City Police at 301-777-1600. Also, to submit anonymous tip that are eligible for rewards, please contact Crimesolvers at 301-722-4300 or http://www.allegany-mineralcountycrimesolvers.com
