Cumberland Speedway Race To Be Held Saturday

Spring rains delayed the resurfacing of the track at the Cumberland Speedway forcing two early races to be pushed back until later this summer- but the hope is that this Saturday, May 30th, can serve as the kick-off event. Craig Knippenberg, race promoter, and organizers of the revived Cumberland Speedway at the Allegany County Fairgrounds decided last month to reschedule races that had been set for April 25 and May 9 in favor of the May 30 start. Calvin Davis, general manager for the speedway, said the decision was made to ensure that an ambitious renovation and repair program at the Fairgrounds half-mile would be complete before the start of the 2015 racing season. It was in October of last year that Knippenberg stepped forward as the promoter of a new racing series for 2015. Formerly called The Rock, the race track was renamed the Cumberland Speedway. Although acknowledging that he himself has never been a race enthusiast per se, his motivation was to preserve an activity that has a rich history and tradition in the county…
