Bells, whistles, car horns, sirens and a large enthusiastic crowd braved the cold and lined the streets of Cumberland to welcome back to town the Fort Hill Sentinals, the new Maryland 1A high school football champions. The Sentinals wrapped up a dominant, undefeated season Saturday afternoon, clinching the school's 3rd state title with a 25-0 win over previously unbeaten Douglass at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore. The team bus arrived in Cumberland right around 8:20 and then headed to Fort Hill High School for a victory celebration. Head Coach Todd Appel said what stands out to him above the team's superior athletic skills and excellent all around play is the character of the players, both on and off the field.
