Cumberland Woman Arrested on Filing False Charges

On Thursday at approximately 1:29 p.m., the Cumberland Police Department discovered that Carol Jean Taccino filed for charges in District Court related to a crash which occurred on 3/15/18 on Park Street. Taccino stated in her application to the Commissioner that the other vehicle in the crash did not have valid insurance at the time of the crash.  This information led to the other operator being charged was false.  The crash was investigated by the Cumberland Police Department and Taccino was given the vehicle’s insurance information on that date.  On 3/17/18 Taccino was again advised that the vehicle had valid insurance when she contacted the Police Department alleging that the vehicle did not have insurance.  Taccino was again provided with the insurance information and advised that the insurance was valid.  Taccino after being advised twice by two different officers filed for the false charges in District Court.  An officer completed an application for charges after learning of Taccino filing for the false charges.  A warrant was issued and Taccino was taken into custody without incident.  Taccino was taken before the District Court Commissioner where she was released pending trail in District Court.
