June 7th, 2017 by WCBC Radio

On April 30th, the Maryland State Police responded to Cunningham Drive, just outside of Cresaptown, for a report of several individuals involved in a fight. When they arrived they discovered that two of the individuals had suffered minor stab and/or cut wounds during the incident.

The Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I) was contacted and Investigators responded to assist in the investigation.

C3I Investigators learned through interviews of the victims and witnesses that several individuals were outside at a private residence when they were approached by a female and male. An argument began over previous issues, that eventually led to a physical confrontation. During the fight, the female suspect is alleged to have produced a knife and stabbed and/or cut two victims before fleeing with the male back to another residence a short distance away.

The two victims were transported by ambulance to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for treatment of their injuries. They were treated and released.

After review and consultation with the Allegany County State's Attorney's Office, Investigators applied for and received an arrest warrant for the female suspect, 49 year old Barbara Jean Leatherman, of Cumberland, charging her with 1st Degree and 2nd Degree Assault.

Leatherman was arrested on 06/06/2017 by the Allegany County Sheriff's Office and taken before the District Court Commissioner for an initial appearance. She is currently being held at the Allegany County Detention Center on $20,000.00 bond, pending her next court appearance.
