Cumberland Youth Arrested by C3I for Attempted Murder

On Friday, 12/14/2018, the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I) arrested 17 year old Jason Leonard Crawford, Jr., after executing a search warrant at an Evitt's Creek Drive residence. Crawford was wanted on a Bench Warrant, and was also charged in connection with a shooting which happened in early December.

 

            On 12/03/2018, at 11:30 PM, the Cumberland Police responded to the 100 block of Arch Street for a reported shooting. Officers learned that a suspect had fired several rounds at an occupied vehicle before fleeing the scene. Members of the Maryland State Police and the Allegany County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene to assist in a search of the area for the suspect, but none was not located at that time.

 

            Investigators with the C3I Unit also responded to assist in the investigation. Numerous interviews were conducted, and items of evidence were recovered that indicated that Crawford was the shooter. Crawford has been avoiding apprehension since the incident.

 

            On 12/14/2018 Investigators received reliable information on Crawford's whereabouts. A search warrant was obtained for the Evitt's Creek Drive residence. Entry into the residence was made by the Cumberland Police CERT team, and Crawford was located and placed under arrest. Additional assistance was provided by the Maryland State Police and the Allegany County Sheriff's Office.

 

            In addition to the Bench Warrant (for Armed Robbery), Crawford, who is being charged as an adult, was also charged with Attempted 1st Degree Murder, Attempted 2nd Degree Murder, and 1st Degree Assault in connection with the shooting incident.

 

            Crawford is currently awaiting an appearance before a District Court Commissioner.

 

            The investigation is continuing by C3I. Additional charges are pending.
