Czapski Says That County Has No Vision For Economic Development

Although he caught some flak from the Allegany County Commissioners, Chamber of Commerce Director Stu Czapski tells WCBC News that he stands by his comments last week suggesting that the county does not have a vision for economic development. Czapski made those comments during a Wednesday morning meeting of the Chamber’s economic development committee. After they were broadcast on radio, the county commissioners reacted strongly – pointing out that the county has an extensive economic development plan covering all regions of the county that was developed just last year.  Czapski, who is actually working as part of a joint committee with the county on economic development, says there is a big difference between having a written plan- and having an actual long range vision for the local economy…

    Welcome to 1995 Mr. Czapski. I can’t remember a time in recent history when Cumberland has had any sort of Economic Development plans. The Queen City has been viewed through the “glory days gone by” lens as a town getting smaller ever since I can remember. That view can’t help but impact plans for economic development. If a time comes that those in power there view Cumberland as a small town with potential for growth, and actually do things to act on it, then maybe there will be a chance. Until then…
