Dairy Mart Robbery

February 1st, 2012 by WCBC Radio

WCBC News learned of a robbery at the Dairy Mart on Oldtown Rd in Cumberland at approximately 4am Wednesday morning.  The Cumberland Police Department has released the following information.

Early Wednesday morning, 02/01/2012, at approximately 4:26 AM, Officers with the Cumberland Police Department responded to the Circle K convenience store (formerly Dairy Mart) on E. Oldtown Road in Cumberland for a reported armed robbery.

Investigators with the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I) also responded to assist in the investigation. Investigators learned that a lone white male suspect entered the store shortly after 4:00 AM. The suspect displayed a sharp metal object and demanded money from the clerk. The suspect instructed the clerk to remove an undisclosed sum of cash from both cash registers and place it in a plastic bag. The suspect then forced the clerk to exit the store with him and walk down an alley adjacent to the store. After a short distance, the suspect forced the clerk to the ground and fled the area on foot. The clerk returned to the store and called 911.

With the assistance of Deputies from the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office, and a K-9 dog from the Maryland State Police, a search was conducted, but the suspect was not located at that time.

The suspect was described as a white male, in his early to late 20’s in age, 5-05 to 5-06 in height, and thin. He was wearing a black long sleeve t-shirt, faded blue jeans, and a black ski mask to conceal his identity.

Investigators reviewed the store’s video surveillance and obtained photos of the suspect.
