Deadline For Residents To File To Run For City Council Approaching

December 14th, 2011 by WCBC Radio

The deadline for city residents in which to file to run for the office of Council for the City of Cumberland is less than a month away- and there is a chance it could be a wide open race for the two seats up for election. The 2012 election process for the City will include the two council seats currently held by Mary Beth Pirolozzi and Harold “Butch” Hendershot, Jr., whose terms run from January 7, 2009 through January 2, 2013. Pirolozzi, still stinging from last year’s failed attempt to unseat Kevin Kelly in the House of Delegate 1B race, has made no secret that she will not seek another term on the council. It is not as clear when it comes to Hendershot’s future political plans. The longest serving council member- having first taken office in 1994, Hendershot has experienced some health problems in recent years, including suffering a heart attack in February. It would represent his second campaign in two years as a result of being the low vote getter- and the stress of another election is something he and his family will take into consideration…
