With Maryland’s Primary Election set for April 26th this year- candidates seeking state or local office face an early deadline to file. The deadline is Wednesday, February 3rd at 9 PM. Locally there are just two races on the ballot with two seats up on the Allegany County Board of Education and two Cumberland City Council seats. At the close of the day Friday, just one council candidate had filed incumbent David Caporale; and just one School Board candidate, incumbent Nick Hadley. The other school board incumbent Ed Root has told WCBC News that he has no plans to seek another term, while incumbent City Councilwoman Nicole Myers is not expected to run- with an eye toward running for a House of Delegates seat in two years. Cumberland Mayor Brian Grim said he expects a number of candidates to step up in the days leading up to Wednesday’s deadline….
