Deadline To File For This Years Election Approaching

February 16th, 2018 by WCBC Radio

Cumberland Mayor Brian Grim has filed to run……for a seat on the Allegany County Democratic Central Committee. With less than two weeks before the deadline however the incumbent mayor is not yet certain if he will run for a third term as the city’s mayor. With or without Grim, it’s a crowded field for the office with five candidates having signed up. Lawrence Becker; Raymond Dye; George Merling; Raymond Morris and David Smith have all filed seeking the top spot in City Hall. There are two city council seats up for election- and incumbents Richard Rock Cioni and Seth Bernard will both be on the primary ballot along with John Fetchero and Wayne Hedrick. Despite those numbers for city office, it’s the Allegany County Commissioners race that has generated the most interest with six Republicans and one Green Party candidate on file. All three incumbents: Jake Shade, Creade Brodie Jr and Bill Valentine are joined by Stu Czapski, Jerry Rice and Dave Caporale. The Green Party Candidate is Michael Leptic. Currently no Democrats have filed. Finally, the Board of Education race will be wide open this year with four seats up for election- and currently there are four candidates on file: David Bohn; Robert Farrell; recent appointee Nick Hadley and Wesley Mason. Incumbents Laurie Marchini and Sara Beth Bittinger have announced they won’t be candidates, while Wayne Foote says he remains undecided. Deadline to file is February 27th
