Dealing With Repeat Offenders Is The Most Effective Way Of Halting Crime

Local law enforcement believes one of the most effective manners in halting criminal activity is by aggressively dealing with repeat offenders- something that has become a major problem in Cumberland. The Cumberland Police Department earlier this year hired two new employees using a grant to enable the city to participate in the Governor’s Office of Crime Control and Prevention’s Safe Streets initiative- including former longtime Allegany County Sheriff David Goad.  Goad, who opted two years ago not to seek another term as sheriff, was hired as the city’s Safe Streets Program coordinator. He says an early priority is identifying and tracking those career criminals who are involved in the overwhelming majority of serious crimes…
