Although no longer a member of the group, 1C Delegate Mike McKay is continuing to promote the importance of the Maryland Rural Counties Coalition. The organization now counts 16 of the state’s counties as members, with a population of more than 1.3 million Marylanders. McKay, when he served as president of the Allegany County Commissioners, spearheaded the effort to establish such a coalition to give a voice to the state’s smaller, rural areas who often times find themselves ignored in Annapolis.
