Register of Wills to appear in court later this month

Two weeks from today, Allegany County Register of Wills Rebecca Drew is scheduled for her initial court hearing on charges that she fraudulently used an office credit card and checking account for personal expenses. While the indictment leaves her future in limbo, it may give District 1C Delegate Mike McKay a clearer picture of his immediate political future.   McKay, frustrated with the travel required for the House of Delegates seat, told WCBC News in May he had decided not to seek another term in Annapolis- but rather pursue the local Register of Wills post.  Drew had announced on social media prior to the indictment that she did not plan to run again, meaning the seat will be wide open regardless.  However McKay believes Drew’s legal entanglement may lead to her having to resign, which would see an appointee being selected to fill the seat on an interim basis…
