Delays Continue With Proposed City Market

It was with great enthusiasm in January of 2011 that city leaders spoke of a proposed City Market acting as an anchor to revitalizing the downtown business climate by the summer. A year later — hopes remain, but the project remains in the planning stages with still no identified location.  The same consultant that the city of Annapolis hired last summer to reopen its historical downtown market. The plan has been to create a City Market where about two dozen vendors, including food, retail and service-related organizations, could do business. Initially, plans were to locate it in the McMullen building at the corner of Baltimore and George streets, but organizers discovered that they might not be able to use certain grant monies to fund it.
