DelFest Cancels 2020 Event, But Signs Contract Extension

June 11th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

To very little surprise, DelFest officials announced Wednesday that there will be no festival in 2020. The family of Del McCoury announced in early April that the popular festival held each Memorial Day weekend at the Allegany County Fairgrounds would not be held as scheduled as a result of Coronavirus concerns.  At time the hope was that it could be rescheduled for later in the summer or early fall- however with Maryland not expected to sign off on large scale events anytime soon- that will not be the case. Festival representatives conferenced  with state and county officials Wednesday and made the announcement following that session.  Ronnie and Rob McCoury told WCBC News that it is simply too  big a health risk for everyone involved to try to schedule a festival that routinely attracts around 30,000 from all over. The legend himself, Del McCoury had a message for Allegany County…

What was a surprise is that the McCoury's signed a three year contract extension to keep the festival at the Allegany County Fairgrounds.

In another article today it discusses Maryland reopening schools. Last time I checked that’s a lot of people in one space. Glad these folks were able to make an obvious, common sensed based decision. Too bad so many of our elected officials seem unable to do the same.

Wow! See how easy that contract signing was when Valentine was removed from the negotiation? Makes you wonder what else that doddering old man interfered with for the area.

So did Del and the band get a credit on the rent for not being able to have a 2020 event.
