UPDATED: Downed Tree Causes Power Issue, Detours & Traffic Light Outages

9 PM Update:  

Due to the numerous poles and lines down, Mt. View Drive from Schly Street to Mcgruder Street will remain closed until further notice.  Potomac Edison crews are working in this area and will be for an extended period of time.  All other streets affected by the downed power lines have now been reopended.  Motorist are asked to expect future street closures in the affected area as repairs are being made.

 

INITIAL REPORT:
 

Potomac Edison crews are working to restore service to 1700 customers in Cumberland.

There are also numerous street closures as a result of a tree down on the Great Alleghany Passage.

A tree caused damage to numerous power poles on the Westside of Cumberland. The area affected is Valley Street to Cumberland Street to include Mountain View Drive. There are numerous locations throughout the affected area where wires and poles are down.

Please avoid these areas and treat all down wires as live. There are several traffic lights that are out as a result of the incident, remember when traffic lights are out, they are to be treated as a must stop in all directions.

The Potomac Edison crew on the scene is estimating the power to be out in the area for an extended period of time.
