Cumberland's mayor and city council and the downtown development commission will present the BB&T Rockin’ New Year’s Eve Ball Drop and fireworks Thursday on Historic City Center. Festivities begin at 10:30 p.m. Once again WCBC Radio will broadcast the event live with coverage beginning at 10 p.m. The official celebration will last about two hours, but will start early and end late as downtown restaurants host dinners and downtown bars host parties. Steven Leyh, the DDC's promotions director, said balloons and steamers will be launched from the Cumberland Arms building on Liberty Street.
