Downtown Parking Remains A Growing Problem

Parking or the lack of available, “convenient” parking in downtown Cumberland has been an issue of concern for decades- and while the Downtown Development Commission and the city are looking at ways to improve the situation- it remains a growing problem.  During this month’s meeting of the Canal Place Preservation and Development Authority it was pointed out that tenant parking spots are routinely being illegally used- leaving those business owners unhappy. The tenant spaces are included as part of the lease agreement between the businesses at Canal Place and the Authority.  Canal Place executive director Dee Dee Ritchie said a number of ideas are being discussed including more specific, more visible signage near those tenant spaces…
