Drew to stand trial in January

A trial date has now been set for former Allegany County Register of Wills Rebecca D. Drew. Appearing in Allegany County Circuit Court  Tuesday morning,  visiting Washington County Judge M. Kenneth Long Jr. announced that Drew would stand trial January 9th. It was Drew's first court appearance since her July indictment by an Allegany County grand jury on charges of misconduct in office, fraudulent misappropriation by a fiduciary and two counts of theft scheme $1,000 to under $10,000. According to court doucments, the charges allege that Drew, 48, fraudulently used an office credit card and checking account for personal expenses. The alleged theft totaled approximately $4,300 and occurred between July and December 2016. Drew, who resigned from the register of wills post Aug. 15, is scheduled to appear in court for a motions hearing on Nov. 21. Drew was was represented in court Tuesday by Frederick attorney Margaret Teahan. State Prosecutor Emmet C. Davitt is prosecuting the case.
