Driver in accident revived by NARCAN

On 09/14/2018 at approximately 2:34 PM Troopers from the Hagerstown Barrack responded to the area of S/B Sharpsburg Pike (Rt. 65) South of Col H K Douglas Drive to investigate a single vehicle collision involving a Red Volvo that struck a concrete barrier.  Sgt. Shaffer arrived on scene and requested EMS as he recognized the driver may have overdosed on heroin/opioids.  The driver was unresponsive.  Sgt. Shaffer and Sgt. Brown removed the driver from the vehicle to assess his condition. The driver did not have a pulse.  The driver was administered NARCAN.  Sgt. Shaffer and Sgt. Brown performed CPR on the driver until Lt. George, TFC M. Rishell, Officer Linton (DNR), and EMS arrived to assist.  The team of first responders continued CPR on the driver. The driver eventually responded to the NARCAN and CPR as he regained consciousness.  The driver made a recovery on scene and was transported to Meritus Medical Center for further treatment.
