Driver in critical condition following crash

October 10th, 2011 by WCBC Radio

At 0217 a.m. on Barrelville Rd., a tractor trailer went through a guardrail on a bridge and rolled down into Little Jennings Run. Officers of the Allegany County Sheriff's Office responded as well as rescue units from Mt. Savage, LaVale, and Wellersburg. Also responding were Allegany County Hazmat and the State Highway Administration. Barrelville Road was closed for four hours until OK Towing could remove the tractor and trailer which were destroyed. The driver, John Everett Clinger, age 58, of Oak Hill Florida had apparently fallen asleep while driving the rig south on Barrelville Road. It was a particularly violent accident which left Clinger in critical condition. He was entraped until rescue personell could cut him out of the crushed cab of the tractor. He was transported to Shock Trauma in Baltimore after being stabilized at the Regional Medical Center. Deputy Fairley is reconstructing the accident scene and charges are pending.

John is an old friend of mine. Thank you to all of the rescue personnel for the enormous effort it took getting him out of the truck alive. Thanks to all the sheriffs looking for his family. Please keep him in your prayers.
