Driving Suspended and Without Insurance Charges

While on patrol an officer observed a vehicle being operated with several items in the front windshield obstructing the drivers view along with not having its headlights on while the windshield wipers were activated. The vehicle was stopped and the operator Benjamin James Covalt was contacted. While talking with the operator he admitted to the officer that his driver’s license is currently suspended. A K-9 scan was completed with a positive alert detected by K-9 Timo. The vehicle was searched with nothing located. Covalt admitted to having smoked marijuana in the car earlier in the day. Dispatch confirmed that Covalt driver’s license status was suspended. They also determined that the vehicle had a pickup tags order issued by the MVA for suspended insurance. Covalt was issued several citations and released pending trial in District Court.
