On Friday, at approximately 5:44 PM, officers from the Cumberland Police Department and Cumberland Fire Department responded to Interstate 68 Westbound at Exit 43 in reference to a motor vehicle crash. Upon arrival, police began their investigation and determined that a vehicle, operated by Mark Anthony Sanders, age 48 of Hancock, MD, had struck a tractor-trailer in the rear. Sanders was found to be at-fault for the collision. All westbound lanes had to be shut down to traffic for approximately 1 hour until the accident was cleared. Sanders was transported by ambulance to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for treatment of non life-threatening injuries. Sanders was suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol. Charges are currently pending.
