Economic Strategic Plan for County to be Presented by Indiana Firm

Officials from Indiana-based Thomas P. Miller & Associates, a firm hired by Allegany County commissioners to create an economic development strategic plan for the area, will present a final report to the county in May, but some of the preliminary findings have been released.  The first phase of the process began with studying regional demographics, economics and housing to better understand the county’s current condition. That was followed by inviting community members’ participation in the process, which included two public meetings as well as public surveys. A general outline of the preliminary report was presented this week to the Cumberland Rotary Club. Allegany County’s Director of Economic and Community Development Jeff Barclay said that tourism was identified as having the potential to play significant role in future economic development opportunities for the region.     We need to bring a minor league baseball team to this area. We’ve talked about it too long. Let’s get moving on funding it.
