Edwards Now Backing Bartlett

April 7th, 2012 by WCBC Radio

Endorsing a losing candidate over the party’s longtime conservative federal representative  may backfire, but State Senator George Edwards says he doesn’t expect Sixth District Congressman Roscoe Bartlett to hold any grudges. Edwards, along with Delegates Leroy Myers and Wendell Beitzel, all endorsed and campaigned for State Senator David Brinkley in the Republican primary campaign in Maryland.  Saying at the start of the campaign that they felt Brinkley offered the best chance for the GOP to hold on to the seat in a newly configured, more Democrat sixth district, members of the District One Delegation backed their fellow General Assembly member over the 20 year incumbent. Edwards says that part of the reason for not backing Bartlett is because it was not made clear early on if the Congressman intended to seek another term.
