Efforts Continue On Downtown Cumberland Mall Re-Design

May 13th, 2019 by WCBC Radio

Efforts continue on a duel track to re-design the downtown Cumberland Mall- with the hope being that actual construction can begin early next year. The Baltimore Street Redevelopment Project began back in 2014 and includes reinstalling Baltimore Street through the downtown pedestrian mall, opening it to vehicular traffic and renovating that area. Replacing underground fiber and utility lines is also a major part of the revamping. Cumberland Economic Development Corporation executive director Paul Kelly reports that currently plan approval and endeavors to secure funding for the project both remain on track…

!000 other things they could be doing but they want to mess up something they got that is good. There is a creativity lack here. How about a decent public park ?

      > The CEDC wants to pull fiber optic cable throughout the area for CBIZ and that new boutique hotel that is so far just a wish, but the only way they could fund it was through the the Highway Admin. and they won’t fund a non- vehicle roadway. Suddenly the powers that be decide to reinstate vehicle traffic on the mall. Next they had to hire yet another consultant to come up with a new plan for reworking the area.

    “…on a duel track…”
That is very funny, a freudian slip I guess. Great in Hatfield and McCoy territory. No dual track for us.

Dual track? They have 15 projects they want to pursue. We hope to see some results.

Don’t be so quick to dismiss having a ‘duel track’! It would help attract tourists if we let some local white trash have ‘duels on the mall”!! (heck they do it anyway) LOL
