In March, the Allegany County Board of Education asked county officials for their assistance in obtaining 13 additional armed officers to patrol area public schools- and efforts are continuing to make that request a reality. The request came in light of recent shootings taking place at schools in Parkland, Florida and Lexington Park, Maryland. There are currently eight school resource officers working a rotation at the area's public schools. An additional 13 school resource officers would cost roughly $1.2 million in salary, training and benefits.
