Elderly Man Found After Midland Search

On Saturday,at about 4:00pm deputies with the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a residence along New George’s Creek Road in the Midland area of Allegany County in reference to a missing elderly male with dementia. Upon arrival deputies spoke with family and gathered detailed physical and medical information about the missing man. Once information was gathered deputies requested assistance from the Midland Volunteer Fire Department, Allegany County Department of Emergency Services EMS Division, Maryland State Police K9 Division, Maryland Natural Resources Police K9 Division and the Maryland State Police Aviation Command.

Due to the large scale incident involving numerous law enforcement, fire and EMS agencies a unified command post was established at the scene to ensure streamlined communications and decision making among all involved.

Upon the arrival of the Maryland State Police K9 Division a blood hound was deployed to track the individual on the ground while the Maryland State Police Aviation Command Trooper 5 conducted a search from the air.

Emergency Services were assisted in the ground search by numerous private citizens utilizing ATVs and the victim was ultimately located in a wooded area by a private citizen who assisting with search efforts. The victim was found to be in good health and was brought out of the woods using an ATV. The victim was reunited with family and then evaluated by EMS personnel and transported to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.
