Emergency Commission on Gerrymandering Will Meet Tonight

The nine-member Emergency Commission on Sixth District Gerrymandering will conduct a public hearing this evening at Allegany College to hear from Allegany and Garrett county residents. In November, Federal judges issued opinions saying the 6th District, as redrawn in 2011 in a process overseen by then-Governor Martin O’Malley, violates citizens’ First Amendment rights.  Governor Larry Hogan, a Republican, appointed the committee at the end of December. Hogan says that re-examining the district lines is a  victory for the vast majority of Marylanders who want free and fair elections…
