Enrollment Numbers In Allegany Co. Schools Shows Slight Decline

The preliminary enrollment numbers for the new school year in Allegany County public schools shows a slight decline, but Superintendent David Cox says those numbers are likely to change. Enrollment numbers are important for the school system, as maintenance of effort funding numbers locally are based on a per pupil basis. If the number of students increases, the board receives a higher funding allocation- but if those numbers decline, fewer dollars are available.  September 30 enrollment numbers is what is used by the county to set next year’s budget. Superintendent Cox said while the preliminary numbers look to be down somewhat, the final figures won’t be known until all of the fulltime equivalency students are taken into account…
