Fatal accident

The Randolph County Sheriff's Department reports that an  accident claimed the life of one driver and sent two others to the hospital in Randolph County on Monday morning. The crash occurred just before 10 a.m. on Route 219. According to reports, the  vehicle was traveling north on 219 when it crossed the median and hit a Coca-Cola truck head on. The driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies said the truck driver pulled a 5-year-old girl out of the vehicle as it caught fire. She was taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital. Her condition is not known at this time. The truck driver was taken to Davis Memorial Hospital with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries. The names of the victims are not being released at this time as the investigation continues.

According to the Mineral County Sheriff's Department, an 18-year-old Burlington man suffered fatal injuries in a single-vehicle accident late Friday on Knobley Road south of U.S. Route 50. The Cumberland Times News reports Brandon R. Sites died at Potomac Valley Hospital following the 10:19 p.m. crash that also injured two Burlington men who are brothers.

Sites was a passenger in a Chevrolet pickup operated by Nicholas R. Shoemaker, 18, and also occupied by 22-year-old Lucas Shoemaker.

Both Shoemakers were taken to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center in Cumberland where they were treated and released, police said.

Police said the accident occurred when the truck veered off the highway, struck an embankment and overturned.

The Mineral County 911 center alerted two ambulances from the Burlington Volunteer Fire Department and one from the New Creek Volunteer Fire Department.
