Fatal accident at Seven Springs

The Cumberland Times News reports a Pittsburgh area man was fatally injured in a skiing accident Monday evening at the Seven Springs Resort.

David A. McClelland, 36, of Coraopolis, was pronounced dead following the accident that occurred sometime between 6 and 6:15 p.m., according to Pennsylvania State Police at Somerset.

According to witnesses, McClelland was skiing when he left the trail at a high rate of speed. McClelland apparently lost control and entered a wooded, rocky area where he struck his head on some rocks and was knocked unconscious.

The Seven Springs ski patrol took life-saving measures that were not successful. The victim was pronounced dead just before 7 p.m.

Westmoreland County Mutual Aid Ambulance Service and Seven Springs Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to the scene at 7:05 p.m., according to the Somerset County Control emergency center.
