Fire at Garrett County Medical Building

The Cumberland Times News reports fire destroyed the Western Maryland Dermatology Building at 2501 Deep Creek Drive late Wednesday night, causing a loss estimated at nearly $1 million. Numerous volunteer fire departments responded to the scene following alert by the Garrett County 911 emergency center at about 9 p.m., after a passerby discovered the fire. 

Deep Creek Volunteer Fire Department directed the fire operation and were assisted by Oakland, Bittinger and Accident volunteer fire departments.

More than 40 volunteer firefighters responded to the fire that reportedly began in the basement of the two-story medical office building.

 

The cause and origin of the fire remains under investigation by the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office.

The loss was estimated at $750,000 to the structure and $150,000 to its contents, according to the fire marshal's office.

The owner of the property was identified by the fire marshal's office as Dan Herring, dermatologist.
