Firm Selected To Complete Design & Implementation Plans For “River Park At Canal Place”

March 27th, 2019 by WCBC Radio

Civil and Engineering Consultants (CEC) of Bridgeport West Virginia has been selected by the Canal Place Preservation and Development Authority to complete design and implementation plans for “River Park at Canal Place” project.  The plan is for a water attraction on the North Branch of the Potomac River for canoes and kayaking, with a viewing area and riverside walking track. RFP’s from three firms were received for the design document last month- and the board has awarded the contract to CEC which came in with a bid of $60,000. The  document will provide design for all of the various steps to make the River Park happen; provide cost projections; economic impact numbers as well as indentifying possible sources of funding and how those dollars  can be obtained. Executive Director Dee Dee Ritchie said that although all three rfp’s received were solid proposals- CEC appears to be most qualified to handle the job…

Typical! They have hired consultants from more of a Podunk than here. Consultants should be from places with Mensa chapters. Bridgeport, WV pop. 8355 !?! The top story on that town’s webpage this morning, and it is from last week, is “Female Cat Missing from Meadowbrook Manor Area”. The cat is reported to have “escaped”. The cat likely has more sense than the consultants. So here we go again; spending some tens of thousands for some lame plan and then millions to implement it as we wouldn’t want to waste the thousands. We just keep digging.

CEC just offered the biggest kickback. But yes, throwing away more money for glossy pictures of things that never get built. Or get built half way then stopped (Canal Park!)
